A Step-by-step Guide to Repairing Offline Folder (OST) Files

Every so often, you may get error messages just as you are using Outlook to synchronize your Offline Folder Files (OST) files with the mailbox stored on a Microsoft Exchange Server. These error messages arise because Outlook may suspect that the OST files are corrupted to some extent. Fortunately, Outlook also provides you with the means to repair damaged Offline Folder Files. This Outlook tool called the OST Integrity Check tool helps you to quickly scan the OST files, check them for errors and even repair the errors found. However, for this tool to function properly you have to be connected to the Microsoft Exchange Server. This means that if you have set up Outlook to automatically start offline, you may not be able to use the OST Integrity Check tool to carry out an exchange recovery. You have to change the start-up settings of Outlook before you can actually run this tool.

 

Here is a useful step-by-step guide to repair Offline Folder (OST) files.

·        You may suspect that your OST files are corrupted when you find that Outlook is taking a long time to load, it is responding too slowly to simple tasks or if you are faced with a few error messages - all these may indicate that there is some corruption in your OST files. If you select the check box next to 'Repair Errors', then the OST Integrity Check tool will automatically repair the errors and carry out an exchange recovery. However, if you do not select this check box then the tool will merely log all the discrepancies found without actually making any corrections.

Once in a while though, the OST file becomes seriously corrupted and the OST Integrity Check tool is unable to restore the files.
